CA certificates
A Certification Authority (CA) is an organisation responsible for the generation, issuance, revocation and management of certificates. The term refers to both root certification authorities (Root-CA) and subordinate certification authorities (Sub-CA).
The certificates of the root certification authorities (Root-CA) are pre-installed as trust anchors in the common applications or certificate stores of the operating systems. In special cases, this certificate can be installed later.
For validation of the certificate chain, the certificate of the intermediate certification authority (Sub-CA) must be installed in the common applications or certificate stores of the operating systems.
